Mum never spoke about her horribly mutilated legs.

She’d been a 7 year old girl, caught in a fire. That’s all.

Then came 9/11 - which turned out to be the anniversary of her fire. She'd been asleep in bed at home when 200 Lancaster bombers came to fire-bomb her town and kill her.

On the 5th anniversary of of New York's 9/11 and the 62nd of Darmstadt's, Mum agreed to revisit her childhood home and tell her English son for the first time what had happened to her and her town. Mum and Martin walk the route that she ran that night, from her home through the flames to survival.

She reflects on fear, on pain, on forgiveness, and on what the passage of time does to a city and its devastated citizens.
